I have a 1999 A4 TDI 1.9. When you boot it the engine splutters at about 2800 revs, then only has reduced power until the engine is switched off. My spanner man has identified the problem as code 00575 (Intake manifold pressure deviation from desired value intermittant). Has anybody any ideas on this problem please.

Hi, Sounds like a turbo or boost problem, check all the pipes between the turbo and intercooler for splits and then between the intercooler and the inlet manifold. Are you getting any black smoke when driving? take off the hose from the front of the turbo and check if there is lots of oil in the pipe. with the engine cold and it must be cold! look in the front of the turbo and inspect the fan blades for damage and the casing around the blades for scraping. use your index fingure on the end of the shaft with the fan blades on ther should be only a minute amount of play side to side up and down, Then try and pull the shaft in and out, any paly in and out and the turbo is knackered.

Hope it is just a split pipe or just a pipe popped of and not the turbo!

Thanks fo that. There is black smoke when you boot it, the same as most other diesels. I will check out the things you have mentioned. Like you say hopefully just a pipe. Thanks again

I had the same thing happen to me recently, as well as the black smoke what is your coolant temp like ??

Mine was running about 15c too low and it turned out to be a hole in the pipe leading to the intercooler, hope this helps

Hi, I'm really interested in the "holed intercooler pipe" theory. I have had the intermittent loss of power issue with my 2.5 tdi for 2 years now (i am very patient). It is accompanied by a fault code of 000575 "inlet manifold control pressure exceeded" & during my ownership it has never reached optimum operating temp. I usually drifts between 65 & 75 deg c. Wher exactly was the hole in the intercooler pipe? & did this result in over or under boost?

I dont have my audi anymore but from memory the hole was in the lower pipe leading to the intercooler on the underside. My mechanic and I think it was caused by road debris bouncing up at high speed due to the guard being absent!

    Regards

Can you remember whether it was over or under boosting?

It was hard to say as i had another issue at the time causing the limp mode to kick in. When i logged some data using vagcom during a 5 mile trip around town i would of said it was overboosting but i cannot be sure, sorry!

No problem. You have a better memory than me. I was just trying to figure out how a hole in the intercooler pipe would result in an overboost scenario. Thanks for a swift response.

I had the same problem with my 1998 1.9 Tdi AFN, turned out to be the variable vanes in the turbo sticking, sorted it with a can of Mr Muscle, I put a post on here about two months ago. Not had a problem since. Give it a go, got nothing to loose and if it cures it you've saved ŁŁŁŁ's.

Good luck, any questions give me a shout.

    Cheers!
