If you mean that all the display has gone off and 'Nothing' works then you have loast power to the contoller. Check S225 and S226 both 30A and S5 10 Amp. Regards Peter

The two common faults with this are the Fan motor itself has worn bruses, remove glove box and give the motor a bash when powered up of J126 Motor control amp has fialed ot melted it's connector. It can also be seen with the glove box out monthed in the air duct with three wires going to it. You could remove the pollen filter and use a long thin screw driver and rotate the fan to a different position and then turn it on, if it runs then it is time for a new motor. £60/70 from memory. Regards Peter

Hi Peter, Took the glove box out, gave the motor a slight bash and it powered back into life and seemed ok powering up and down with the control unit "Worn bushes or melted contacts ?"

Also any ideas on how to get the speedo/rev counter/warning light unit out I can see no obvious way.

To answer the first question the cars a 98 Audi Avant 1.8 Turbo its a phase two models (The modern looking one I call it) - I have the milometer showing a bad readout I was either thinking of looking at the solders or cleaning it up - I have maganed to find a reasonably priced replacement but cant work out how you remove the whole pod ?
I will try with the motor for a week or so and see how it goes. Would you recomend a used motor, are other VW and Audi motors compatable from othere models.

    Thanks

    Tim
