    Played around with VAGCOM abit this weekend on my 2009 blue motion;

    Turned on the 'alarm chirp'
    Turned off the DRLs
    Needle sweep - doesn't work, no option
    Turned on auto-lock when setting off

    There were plenty modules with no available options; so have sent the data off to ross-tech to see if they can come up with any goodies

    Quite a few electronic controlled devices ( cars included) have features that are supplied in the disabled state but can be activated by a simple software code instruction or update. Standardising on the hardware can make economic sense to the manufacturer although in this case I believe all European Golfs have ABS.
    The "Flat tyre indicator" option ( £30 on new Golf ) uses the ABS & its ECU to compare the rotational speed of the wheels . If one wheel is rotating faster than the others because the wheel has a smaller rotational radius ( ie has significantly reduced pressure ) then a warning sybmbol on the Dash will be illuminated.
    The "Tyre pressure monitoring system" which is a much higher option price uses pressure sensors in each tyre valve to monitor actual tyre pressures. I not sure that this option is available for the Golf in the UK but I have seen it fitted to the range topping 4 X 4's . They show actual tyre pressures on the dash - this is a much more accurate system .
    ( each wheel tyre valve sensor is about £70 ! ).
    It would appear that VW have confused these two options in their manuals & brochures. Even the POLO brochure talks about "pressure sensors" when it refers to the the £30 option.
    It is interesting to note that some US computer manufacturers were fined by the US federal government for charging customers extra for enabling features that were already fitted.

    sorry in advance...i don't mean to be blonde here, but is the alarm chirp the sound when you lock and unlock the car? If so that would be nice to have active as it just acts as a double check that the doors have locked as you walk away from the car. Anyone in Birmingham that can enable that?

    The alarm chirp is a very very subtle 'bip' that goes off when the car is locked (not unlocked).

    It's quite clever as well, because it only does it when the car is 'sealed' - so if your boot is up and you lock the car, the doors will lock but the alarm wont chirp until everything is shut and secure

    I'll try and do a video if I get chance.
