Ive now had three A6 2.0 TDi's and Im going to buy yet another A6 as they are perfect for what I do . If feel like upgrading to a 2.7 or 3.0 - can you please advise me on which of the larger engines is the better - 2.7 or 3.0 ? Any other points on these models that I should be made aware of ? Many thanks in advance - Barry Clarkson

Go for a 3.0...very fun to drive, plenty of poke still have fairly decent MPG.

I had a 2.7 TDI manual, 190 bhp I think but have recently bought a 3.0 TDI Tiptronic 225 bhp. There is very little difference in the fuel consumption and the 3.0 is much quieter and more refined.

pick up my 3.o in 3 weeks.Still think its worth the extra. No MPG penalty over 2.7 only ins Group and VED.

Comments on this forum support the 3.0 being a blast
Good luck in the search. The fun is in the looking.

had my 2006 3.0TDI for about 3 months and i'm loving it. plenty of power for overtaking and looks the business.

i went for the S-Line but be warned the ride is HARD. you might want to look at the SE if ride comfort is an issue.

also bear in mind that the 3.0 models are all quattro, but only the higher-end 2.7 ones are.

    happy hunting.

Neither the BMW 3.0D's are more refined and modern. The Audi larger diesel lumps (except brand new ones) are not very efficient.

With reference to the above, I strongly disagree! Just sold my 54 plate Bmw 535d sport tourer 92k and just bought a 54 plate Audi A6 3.0 tdi s line and find the audi much more refined. Quieter, smoother engine, the most fantastic of interiors, wonderful low sleek looks and i've pocketed £5000 in the changeover. Only downside is the low speed ride quality but i really feel as if i've upgraded in cars! Low speed performance is on par with the 535d and only a hardly noticeable difference in the higher speeds! Gear changes are much smoother in the Audi!
Thats an unbiased view from someone who has had the two cars!

Can anyone tell me if this car of mine has a timing belt or chain?? Its got 98k on the clock.
    Thanks, scott.

Currently have an A6 3.0, but have had the 2.7 as a loaner, found the 3.0 nicer to drive, and could find no reason to buy the 2.7.
We wanted quattro and high spec incl tiptronic anyway, so 3.0 was the way to go.
