Just had my A4 Tdi 130 PD serviced using Comma Prolife 5w 30 long Life engine oil which, according to Comma is made specifically for VW / Audi, and complies with VW 506 01 spec. Took the car to an Audi specialist to have the service indicator reset to long life and he says the oil is not suitable and would never use it for a standard service let alone a long life one. I am now concerned if this oil is okay or not!. Should I ignore his comments or get it changed toot sweet!

    He is talking bull.

On your car for regular services you need 505.01 oil.

For the longer interval services you need 506.01 or 507.00

506.01 has been replaced by 507.00 hence why he is confused.

So your 506.01 oil is more than up to the job.

    Some Audi Specialist!

This is what freaks me out, do they really know or are they trying BS you.

Only one way to get it right, do it yourself! As Peter said, it's spot on! The .01 is key for PD engines.

    Hello there,

From my own experiance I would not bother with the long life oil service, my a4 awx 130 had full vag history and the correct longlife oil used all the way up to the tappet cracking and finally exploding causing a total new top end including a brand new head because the tappet trashed the head.

The tappet made a tappety noise for about a week after a oil service and then bang it all went wrong, Audi UK were not interested because my car had done over 100K and was older than 5years.

I have been advised by several mechanics to only go down the road of set services, i'm now going to service it every 5k using fully synthetic quantum oil.

I know a lot of people say long life service is fine because of the quailty oil used however it is a load of rubbish, after all audi only warrant up to 100k, by that point the damage is done.

Have a look inside of the cam cover and look at the condition of the tappets. As I said my car was full vag history with all of the correct castrol £17.50 a litre bottle. Trust me it is not worth it............ The longlife services were only devised for the company car rep boys who wanted to spend as little money on the cars.

Oh also my original tappets were the revised black ones and they were all cracking and dishing in shape.

I don't want to scare anybody but it really is a problem.

    Cheers,

    Dan

That'll be the valves rattling until the oil makes its way round. Perfectly normal, and IIRC there's even something in the manual about it
