    Hi Guys

Please can you tell me, does the cam belt etc need to come off to replace the thermostat on a 2001 A6 2.5 tdi Quattro 180 bhp model? I have read on some A6s it needs to be removed.

Does anyone have a how to guide or know where there is a copy of one online to replace the thermostat?

Thanks for your help, my water temp stays around 70 and not getting much heat through the heater.

    Cheers

    Duke

If that is an AKE engien code then yes the ALL belts have to come off and the whole front of the car have to be placed in the cervice postion to gain access. It's quite a big, some spectial tools and all the torque figues are required. Is it due a cam belt change and what mileage has it doem. It ay be worth changing the belts, tensioners, idlers pulley, water pump and stat. Regards Peter

If it doesn't require a cambelt change try changing the temperature sender for about £20. These can sometimes be faulty.

Yes but his heater is not getting up to temp either. A vagcom read would see if both elements of the sensor report the same value, if so pointing to the stat. Regards Peter

Thanks for your replies guys, yes it is an AKE engine. I brought the car a couple of weeks ago with 144K on it, cam belt was changed at around 141K.

Think i may need to find someone with VAG.com before i start messing around with things etc. Anyone know where this can be downloaded for free?

Thanks for your help, i will keep you posted! Still loving the car and presumably it will be safe to run as it is, just the fuel mix, computer etc will be receiving the incorrect readings?

Also got another problem.......... My main beam does not work when pushed forward and pulled back, the blue light does not come on on the dashboard either. Check the bulbs these both seem fine, any ideas what may be wrong? Relay (if so where is this located)? Or maybe the switch?

    Cheers

Hi peter, sorry to hijack thread, I have a 2000 Allroad, 2.5 AKE engine which runs cool (acording the the guage ussually sits at 80 Deg C) heater feels warm though.
today I checked with vag com one of the temp measuring blocks it says 75 deg C (engine been a drive for 30 mins) i checked many blocks but all show exact same temp. where can i find the other measuring block to compare temp readings for the 2 sensors, assuming i have 2??

tryning to establish if thermostat is stuck open or temp sensors faulty

    (hope its the 2nd!!)

    regards

    Andy
