Tdi sport drivers door won't open from outside

I also have this problem, exactly as REVIT describes it. It would appear to be a mecanical problem and not electrical, which is good as i would expect this is a job for a mechanic and not a specialist auto electrician or vw dealer.££££

I had this on my 07 plate estate a couple of weeks ago - it was a broken actuator and cable - replaced under warranty so I can't tell you cost or how easy it is (sorry!).

I've just had this problem with front passenger door, ie pulling the outside handle does nothing, but it opens OK from the inside.

VW quoted almost £200 for the repair, but just before it was due in the door started working normally again, so touchwood it was just a temporary glitch that has righted itself.

I'm not holding my breath though

I had a similar problem about Nov/Dec last year. Front passenger door wouldn't open from outside but would from the inside. It was under warranty so phoned the dealer. I was told that it was a 'long job' as the whole door has to be stripped but not a problem as under warranty. Just before it went into the dealer the problem disappeared. That was until last week when guess what? The passenger door wouldn't open from the outside again! Do you think it's the weather???

This has happened to me a couple of times. The immediate remedy for me was to open the car windows with the key fob and put your hand through to open it from the inside.

Now, mine sorted itself out without any cost, on both occcasions. (I figured that I'd been a bit hasty trying to open the door just after I had unlocked it and guessed therefore that the system had got itself confused.)

So, my remedy was to keep opening, locking, unlocking, opening, from inside, from outside, until the external door handle re-engaged. It's worked both times, and I've not had it happen again for the best part of a year. It's worth a try before spending money on it!

I have also been having this problem. Passenger door cannot be opened from outside.

I found that if I messed about with opening and shutting the door (from inside) it would eventually start working again for a while. It's currently not working again so will give it another whirl tomorrow.

Interesting what an earlier poster says about the cable being stretched, I wonder if thats the problem?

My drivers dore has done exactly the same thing. Now after opening the windows and opening the door from the inside for a couple of weeks it has decided to start working again!!

Think I will wait for some warmer weather before I take the door apart to find the problem.

Indeed, I think my glitch arose when a passenger tried to open the door when I was unlocking it, but I wasn't sure if this was a coincidence, but your experience seems to suggest there was a connection.

The fact that others are now saying that the prolem has recurred after seemingly rectifying itself doesn't fill me with joy though
