The Adaptive suspension is always variable, so it adapts dynamically. From what I gather, the auto setting is closest to the normal suspension setting but will vary either side of it. The comfort setting is noticeably softer but you can still feel it firm up to the soft side of auto if you put your foot down.
In the S4 comfort - auto - dynamic pretty much equate to mercedes - normal car - mini cooper
