Hi there, new to this so just looking for a bit of advise. I have just bought an 06 a3 sline 2ltr tdi and I can feel a slight engine shudder when the car is idling, does any one know if this is normal? I have taken the car to Audi and they tell me most are like this or worse, I just can't understand a new car having this movement?

    Thanks in advance

yep...i had a 1.6 04' and that shuddered too. No-one knows why?! It really rocks bad.
We thought the car was mis-firing, but it wasn't, all faults were rectified, new oil, everything and it still did it!! I got a new a3 and that doesn't do it...
I suppose if the car works no prob and the fault can't be found...then i guess its not worth worrying about.

This might not help or be of comfort but I've got a '53 plate A3, but with a new engine in it...and it doesn't shake. Petrol though not a 'diseasel' as Clarkson calls them.
Is it the dealer that sold you the car the same dealer that is telling you that 'most are like this' I wonder what their head office would think to that line of reply! Unless of course you bought it elsewhere.

No I bought it from a trader and took it to Audi dealer after driving it for a couple of weeks. I can't believe it's right but after the audi mechanic came out and tested it and told me it's fine I had to accept it. Perhaps I should take it to another Audi garage and see what they say, Thanks for your help!

I currently have an A4 S Line 2.0 TDi 55 plate and when I 'blip' the throttle at standstill the car rocks from side to side. Initially I thought something was wrong with it and could not believe a new car would do that.

After asking round apparently this is due to the way the engine is mounted, i.e. sideways not front to back and so make it appear the engine is loose.

This may be the answer to your question if it sounds the same!?!?!

Best of luck with it though.

I have an 2004 2.0 FSI A3 an had really bad engine shake, took to audi while under waranty and they identified the problem as the catalytic converter. Replaced that and problem went away, however, it return not so long ago and culminated in the engine warning light coming on, the car was barely drivable and on further inspection one of the coils had sheared in 2 and another was on its way out!
