Been driving the car for a couple of weeks. Not had much luck.
The warning lights dont appear anymore, but the car struggles to pick up speed between 1000 and 2000 revs, then suddenly springs into life.

Also notices that whent he car is slowing down, as it reaches the 1500 rev mark, the revs then suddenly dive to 900 This happens irrespective of speed or gear you are in.

I'm thinking of getting the fuel pump replaced.

any advice would be most welcome, looking at booking it in later this week.

    thanks Rajm

Did you get to the bottom of this eventually or? I might be experiencing similar issues.

    Cheers!

High pressure pump is no 1 suspect. As I mentioned before in fact was the little metering valve on the side of it (Audi won't sell this part - just the pump complete). I bought the pump from the Bosch distributor, therefore saving a ton of cash and got an independent to fit it. The result has been no problems for 2 years now and I still have a spare pump. I dismantled the old metering valve and found it was full of crud. I'd bet it could be cleaned up, but the danger is that the cylinder is scratched or deformed (from the particles) and will continue to stick.

BUT, of course the rail pressure sensor could also be faulty, or the high pressure valve on the end of the right cylinder bank. these are less likely IMO

    cheers

    Hi wjam ...

Just like you I had not found this part available separately via parts dept or catalogue, so I thought why not web search the markings on N290 , which were:-

    0 928 400 572
    00874
    58215

When googled the bold text a hit came up , 0 928 400 572 is Bosch part no for N290 and the hit in google showed that VAG P/N is 059 906 457 ...

I then had an ATP search with all brands/models carried out and hey presto part is available via VW dealer as it is available separately on a VW Crafter (2E) Approx. £150 inc vat , the fuel pump P/N that this is fitted to is 059 130 755 N ...

Not that I need valve I thought I would post if someone require it and dealer say not available ...

    *** Edit ***

    Bit more google reveals Bosch P/N 0 928 400 572 superseded/cross with 0 928 400 676

cheers! Will do a bit of shopping around.

And you know in the US they use the same pump on big diesel trucks.. and they have managed to get lots of horsepower with careful use of a dremel on the end of the inlet valve cylinder orifice.. Like huge horsepower!

    Also lots of smoke :-)

    cheers

Hi KQuattro, I have had a similar issue with the coil light flashing and car loosing power and not being responsive. It was down to the Turbo variable vanes not moving properly, it was a very easy fix. Believe it or not it was done by using Mr Muscle oven cleaner.....yes I did say Mr Muscle engine cleaner, look it up on google... utube (audi turbo vanes sticking)Seat leon. Hope this will help
