    Hi ppl

I have a 06 A4 3.0TDI quattro, had it a few years now with no issues what so ever but now its got a problem.

Some times when I am cruising at a steady speed and then put my foot down the car picks up power and then suddenly looses power and the coil light flashes on the dash.

Some days its fine, but today whilst driving to work at steady local speeds it just cut out. Tried strating and it would fire up and then cut out with coil light flashing. I left it for about 30mins whilst waiting for the AA and then when he arrived started the car again and it was fine. AA followed me back home and the car drove fine but only drove at steady speed.

Not going to drive it now as it might cut out on me again, got it booked in at local specialist lets hope its nothing too serious.

My thoughts are possibly fuel pump is on its way out ?
    Coil packs ?
    Turbo wastegate ?

I hope its not the actual Turbo as that will be expensive but I'm guessing that if it was the turbo then it would happen all the time ?

Anyone had similar problem....your thoughts ?

    Hi,

Are you talking about the symbol that goes out when the glow plugs have finished heating?

Obviously not an A4, but you get the idea.

If so, it mentions something in the handbook about what that flashing warning symbol means.
Sorry, I don't have a handbook for my current car, otherwise I'd look it up for you.

When I got my 3.0 tdi, on occassion, I'd try accelerating from steady speed and the revs would hesitate until I backed off throttle then it would clear and fly to redline.Dealer diagnosed turbo fault and fitted new one under warranty. Then the problem came back within 500 miles. After having the car for 3 days dealer diagnosed "partially blocked or collapsing fuel filter" and fitted replacement under warranty.Problem has not recurred over last 13000 miles, hope this is of help,Steve.

Hi Steve, was your coil light flashing when the hesitation happened ?

I changed the fuel filter at 40k....car is now on 55k...i hope it is something as simple as that.

Unfortunately a flashing coil light could mean many many different things. You need a diagnostic scan to find out what exactly the light was trying to indicate.

    Hi,

I'm new to the forum and I have had the exact same issue with my 3.0Tdi Quattro since november.

The other day the engine light (emissions control light) came on and stayed on.
Got the AA man to come round and he looked at the error code (Poo87 _ fuel rail pressure)

Taken it to the garage but I have no idea what they are going to find.

Did this get sorted for you?
    what was the end result?

    Thanks

    Raj

    Hi,

I changed the high pressure fuel pump. In fact it was the inlet metering valve but you cannot buy it separate (which is a disgrace in my book).

My car has had zero re-occurrence after the pump was changed (5 months now)

I did not buy from audi cos it was 1300 euro. You can find them via diesel pump distributors, and the saving is considerable

However the fuel filter is also a candidate. I have heard of them collapsing internally reducing pressure , and also the fuel pressure sender on the bank 2 rail.

    cheers

    thanks Wjam.
I think I might advise the garage of this and see what they come up with.

A quick update on the car situation.
The garage were going to replace the high pressure fuel pump.
After reading around on the forum ....... (thanks everyone), i asked for the Feul filter to be changed first in the hope that it may resolve the issue.

    Guess what? It did!!!!!!

Just gonna drive the car for a while and see how I get on.

cheers for all the e-mails and advise.

    Raj
