I'm new to the 2.0 TDi engines so forgive me in advance. My mate has just bought an A4 2.0 TDi 140 and fancied a remap. I told him to be careful as the older 1.9 TDi engines had a habit of destroying clutches in months. Numerous horror stories of 130bhp engined Golfs, A4s, Passats etc being remapped to 180bhp and turning the clutch to dust in weeks.

Anyone had this engine remapped? Any problems? Anyone KNOW of VAG doing something about the 'weak' clutches when considering the design for the 2.0TDi?

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Jim

Keep the torque down at a reasonable level and you'll have no problems at all.

As Ben at shark said, probs only occur when some tuners just remap for max gain, any good tuner and there are a few of us on here dont!!
Always ask for as much info from your tuner as you can..

Hi Shark_90, interested by the torque comments, if it's too high what issues can occur in you opinion other than replacement clutch being required. Also what do you. Suggest is an acceptable limit for the torque? Cheers

    Hi Marc,
You dont want more than 75nm torque, and when it's mapped properly you will get a much smoother drive from low rpm, you dont want a map that is aggressive, so you dont get a sudden hit of power..which will wear your clutch out very quick...

Keep it around 275lb/ft and you should be fine, although it's more about the way the power is delivered rather than the actual peak figure.

A big boost spike early on might make the car "feel" fast but realistically something's got to give. If you're lucky it's your tyres and you get wheelspin, if you're unlucky the clutch will take the strain and slip. On top of that it can damage the dual mass flywheel, and they're not cheap.

With a nice smooth, progressive delivery the car will be more tractable and easier to drive, and you won't put too much more strain on the drivetrain

Cheers for the info guys - was just curious, as previously had a remap with big torque figures, but overboosted at top end or under heavy load, so got it removed as couldn't be sorted.
