I've got the key and the remote.... both blank and ready to be cut/coded to my immo and alarm....

i've had 2 quotes so far, VW main dealer says if im nice to them and i bend over first, they might do it for half an hours labour, after assesing the car and key for 'suitability'

the other is an independant key cutter/immo specialist, who says £50 to cut and code....

anyone know of any decent and reasonable cutters/coders around my area?

I bought a fob and blank key on fleabay recently and wandered down to my ultra-reliable autosparky who has coded loads of keys for me in the past. He has spent over £16k in equipment to be able to do all of this. However, he told me that VW have now been able to have non-franchised garages banned from coding keys and refused to do it in fear of being hammered with a hefty fine off VUK.

I got my blade cut and presented it to my local ******* (who I must admit were very helpful) and they tried to code it. However, the key/transponder bit supplied off fleabay was either wrong or faulty. When you buy the bit, you note the part number based on the remote fob, not the key. Apparently, the seller had supplied a transponder suitable for static code, not rolling code on my newer Passat.

If you buy away from a *******, make sure that the parts are correct. My new key ended up costing me £105 (£44 to code and £61 to buy). The remote part, however was the right bit off fleabay and worked fine and can be coded yourself from the instructions in the manual.

Unfortunately, it seems like the big boys are, yet again, crushing smaller enterprises. My advise is to bite the bullet and go to your *******, if only to be assured that once they have coded the thing it will work and will be guaranteed. If you buy a dodgy/incompatible key then it may lock up you car's immobilizer completely leaving your car stranded.

Also, the VW dealer has easy access to all of the codes which don't always get passed on from owner to owner etc.

You may think I'm being helpful yet sarcastic, this is only because I feel I need to help you to help yourself in the future

I have considered the fleabay key/transponders, but I have heard several stories about thier reliability. The last thing you need is the the transponser to fail when you're a long way from home...

    Cheers

Can anyone recommend a key cutting place in London/Herts/Bucks/Middlesex that would be able to cut and program a blank Audi TT key?

I've lost the second key and need to get a replacement, but don't really want to spend £200 at an Audi *******!

    Many thanks.
