    Hi All

Just joined the forum today as i have just brought myself a 97 GTI in very nice condition.

BUT when i put it in for MOT last week it failed on rear shock absorbers. I went online an brought a new pair which arrived yesterday. So ok i got the first one off this morning fairly easy but the new unit does not have the bottom spring holder/collar only having raised stops around it indicating that the holder/collar should be removed from the old unit and fitted to the new one as an interference fit.

Having looked at the original unit it doesnt look like this spring holder/collar actually comes off!!

Can any of you good forum members give me the benifit of your knowledge on this subject, is it just that the old unit is so crusty it looks like the collar cant be removed even though i have soaked it etc or have i brought the wrong replacements even though they listed for my model.

Look forward to your advice and help.

    Thanks

    bottom collars usually come seperate
if its had non gen rear shocks before then they may not be a seperate item
    you can buy them seperatly
