Hi, I am new to this forum and new to the world of VDUBs. I purchased a 04 Passat highline, lovely car, but i am experiencing issues with the reverse parking sensor\s.

When i engage reverse i get a beep and then a slightly longer beep that goes on for a few seconds. I spoke with a friend who advised that there may be a faulty sensor or wire. I have tested the sensors by putting it in to reverse and then getting my friend to place his hands on the sensors.

Is there an easy fix for this? I can see that the sensors are embedded in a strip that sits on the back bumper. Is it easy to take off and get access to this?

    Cheers

The black bit at the bottom of the estate? Yes, it unclips, best done when plastic is warm. The sensors can be replaced if it is factory fitted (or genuine VW) but many are aftermarket kits fitted to the trim. The trim is different to standard trim, but people often buy the sensor trim for ~£30 and fit a £40 kit to it. The genuine sensors were over £140 each! last time I looked!

Thanks for the quick reply. Its not an estate car and they are factory fitted. If i find after i have taken the clip\lip off and all wires are intact can but the sensors still dont work, can these be replaced with after market sensors?

Also if i was to heat the strip up a little with a hair dryer and then take it off, think this will work?? And is it easy to take off?

If you get a constant beep which lasts for a few seconds when you select reverse, you most likely have a faulty sensor. I had the same problem when I bought mine; a fault code read will tell you which one is faulty. A replacement sensor cost me £50 from VW and then I paid £10 to get it painted. My car is a 54 plate Highline saloon.

See this thread https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/s...ad.php?t=64546 for instructions on how to remove the sensor.

I had a look into this yesterday, all the wires seem to be connected and not fiddled with. I followed the wires up to the rear lights and the this also seems fine.

How can i check which sensor\s are faulty?

You need to get a fault code reading done with Vag Com or at a dealers, the Park Assist has it's own control module and the fault code will tell you which sensor is faulty.

What part of the country do you live? If you don't have Vag Com there may be someone nearby that does. Alternatively, if you have a laptop computer you can buy a lead for about £15 on Ebay which comes with the Vag Com software and read the codes yourself.

I am in Leeds. I have booked the car in for a full service and cam belt change next week. Ill get the mechanic to have a quick gander. In the mean time i will ask a DUB body works specialist if he has this system\software.

hi, just reading through this. i have a 52plate saloon with factory fit park sensors, three of them work but one doesnt seem to. i can hear a clicking noise coming from all 4 of them when reverse is engaged tho. i have yet to take them out so am not sure if it could just be a broken wire, i assume they have power and signal wires to them. as i hear clicking i guess that indicates power is on but no signal to the control. if the sensor is dead tho do they have to be replaced with the costly vw ones or can i use aftermarket ones and join wires together.

also, peteK, this cable you mention on fleabay, is it possible you could send me a link as it sounds like a very useful piece of kit to have.
    thanks all

I bought mine from this seller to clear my airbag light.

Definately well worth the money, it even allows you to carry out basic programming on some of the control modules such as activating automatic locking at 15mph.
