    Guys, anyone seen this.

I am getting "CD Error" when I put an MP3 CD in my RCD300/MP3 player.

used to work fine. I have tried several ways of writing using NERO (data CD & jukebox/MP3), Windows drag and drop and Windows media player. Used directories and free standing files. I have used cheap/expensive CDR/CR-RW. All fail.

    A PC reads everything fine.

The dealer reckoned it's to do with the format of the CD, I think "b&()^llcks"

    Any help very welcome.

    Is this straight away?

I found that as the disc gets warm I receive the same error.
That is down to the quality of the discs.

Are you using really crappy discs? No offence intended, I always use discs that are lying about and end up having to reburn later.

I have a disc which I painstakingly created with hundreds of mp3 tracks on it for a long journey down south. I got as far as Manchester and got the error. Let it cool and it was fine for another while.

Be aware about using really cheap CDs. My mate had one shatter in his SAAB. What a mess.

Thanks. Definitely yes, it got worse when the CD player got warmer at that stage the fail was intermittent. Now it seems to be permanent.

No offence at all, yes some CD's are definitely cheapest I can get. I will try and burn something to an Imation or Sony to see what happens with that. Good tip. Thanks.

    No problem.
I'm hoping my next car will have the media interface so this won't be an issue.

I found I was getting the same problem when using cheap CDs and using a fast burn rate. Also I was getting problems towards the end of the CDs either because the CD was getting hot or seem to be common if I was filling the CD right up to the maximum (more than 600 MB).

Try good quality CDs with a slower burn rate, and don't fill the disk up and you should be ok.

OK, thanks will try combination of slow burn rate and expensive disc.

Meanwhile, I tried all format of discs (Windows CD writer wizard, itunes, wimdows edia player. All worked in a friends car (Mondeo) and all failed in my RCD300.

I'll see what happens with the RCD300 in the wife's golf.

    Fun eh !!

    So here's the latest:

Slow burn rate and cheap CD: Worked in RDC300 once. Consistently errors though.

Used NERO Copy CD utility on an Audio disc to eliminate the 'MP3' question using same discs, but Audio format: Fails.

So summary is: Any bought Audio CD, i.e. original, 1st generation, not copied audio disc works fine.

Audio files on 'cheap' media fails.

Any type of MP3 file or method of burning fails.

The same discs work fine on a none VW player (Ford).

The same discs work fine on my home MP3 players (Stereo, DVD player, televisoon etc.)

The same discs fail on another RCD300. (08 Golf).

Conclusion so far: The RCD300 is considerably less tolerant of cheap media than other makes / models.

I was trying to put off th epurchase of expensive media just in case it fails. Besides it defeats the object when I can use my IPOD.

WHy didn't the dealer tell me to use expensive discs, rather than claiming I was using the wrong file types. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Started this thread in May. Twice the main dealer has told me that I am writing MP3 in the wrong format, is the reason that I keep getting CD Error.

Well now the RCD310 has started failing normal audio CD's. So I took it in again and the dealer has finally coughed to replacing the unit.

    Gets done tomorrow.

Let's hope it then plays the MP3 CDs hapilly.

    I'll let you know.
