Have you had it diagnosed? Do you have a fault code?

Hi, the garage did a diagnosis that indicated the turbo had failed but I don't have the codes.

Unfortunately without a fault code there is probably little point in anyone trying to give advice.

I take it that your car is a 1.9 turbo diesel? If so there are a lot of niggly little problems that can occur that will put your car into limp mode. A lot of garages will incorrectly diagnose turbo failure and replace at great cost when the problem can be as simple as a leaking vacuum hose.

You really need to get a fault code diagnosis. Personally as the garage has replaced the turbo then I would be going back there and telling them to sort the problem Free Of Charge.

Once you have the codes then post them up and someone will be able to tell you what fault they indicate.
I am guessing that you will have had codes either 17964 or 17965, which indicate an underboost or overboost condition, and lead some garages to diagnose a blown turbo.
These faults are common on the 1.9 tdi, but it is normally a simple fix when you have found the fault.

I am not disputing that your garage is trustworthy, however I would imagine that a turbo replacement has cost you several hundred pounds and you still have a faulty car. My A4 was in permanent limp mode for 6 months. A good local independant diagnosed a blown turbo and quoted £850 for replacement. I knew that the turbo was ok, and after going through every part of the car I found that the cat had fell apart and was blocking the downpipe. I decatted it and it goes like a rocket, and I am £850 richer.
