Been having a loud metallic rattle from the car the last few days, managed to crawl around it today. The Cat has a crack in it and the exhaust is causing it he hit the shield abouve the drive shaft

Anyone changed one before? looks a little cramped around there...oh to have a pit!!!

The cost of a new one from GSF is £89, anyone bought a genuiene one and is there any noticable difference? I'll ring Audi for a price tomorrow.

Oh well on the bright side an excuse to get my hands dirty

    Rob

I have a pit but am 200+ miles away...

Have you not considered getting an exhaust place to do it ?

I'd say it would problem be very similar price wise. Just make sure they don't pull the exhaust place trick of conning you into buying a whole system !

Good advice Col, accept I knew better and bought the part and preceeded to change it....

.....well an hour later I have slakened 3 nuts off and i was covered in oil and scarches and i gave up...the lower nuts are an obsolute nightmare, but then they have been on the car for 131K.

Rang my local garage and took it in, great service.....took then 2 hours to get all the nuts off and he cat out!!!

Gald I stopped before i could still drive it....My next house will have a pit...one day!!!

A metallic rattle you say? Does this occur whilst climbing the revs around the 2k mark? Just, the cars developed a metallic resonating rattle as I accelerate is all. I get alot of white smoke coming out 30 seconds or so after idleing at full temp, could this also be a sign of a duff cat? Ive had the head gasket checked etc and its fine. Little worried now!

Also, wht sort of pricing are we looking at for an OEM Audi cat and an aftermarket/sports cat?

    Any help much appreciated!

    Glad it's sorted.

I'm of the age now where I simply like to pay people if it's not a really easy peasy job.

As for a pit, before I got lazy, I got my shovel, pickaxe and trowel out and dug & built it !

The rattle was at low revs and a sort of tapping noise. it was split around the lower connection, which showed as a black sotty line. the Cat cost £115 inc Vat for the diesel.

Finally i drove the car today and it went into limp mode, noticed a broken connection to the N75 pressure actuator
