The system up to 98 was different and did not break as often. This is a three year old thread.....

Really sorry about this I know this is an old thread, however I cannot find any info on this anywhere else. Mine has snapped at the arm that moves in and out although I have managed to temp repair it until I can find a new one. My question is this when you accelerate it opens with vacuum or air pressure but when you decelerate should it then close by the force of the Spring? Mine stays open all the time unless the car has been stationary for a few hours. Is that normal if not why won't it close? Tried pushing it down but air pressure to great, do I have a vacuum line blocked somewhere?
Appreciate any advice on this, as I mentioned earlier can't find anything about this other than on here. Thank you in advance.

This is what I found when had a look at the idle / manifold value! Anyone know what the part number / name of this diafram value is?

Assuming this is a 1999 A4 with the ADR code engine (which is what it looks like), I have been dealing with this problem for nearly 20 years now. You could never buy the diaphragm and rod on its own, you had to fit the complete barrel assembly part number 06B 133 619 A which WAS £247.74 including VAT but this part went obsolete without replacement on February 1st 2017. Fitting it also means taking off the inlet manifold and the special reusable clamps are a pain to reset.

Thanks crasher. I now think I have an idle problem not a manifold value problem. The car has power through the rev range and torque at low revs. The issue I have not is idling. When you take your foot off the accellerator the engine hunts and stalls.
