i drive an audi a4 b5 non turbo 1.8 however i am looking to get the best out of my engine. i know without a turbo its far fetched.

does anyone have any ides of what can i do to get the best from the engine?

increasing horsepower, torque and life of the engine.

It is extremely expensive to get any more out of these, just about the only way is a 2 litre conversion or to convert it to a turbo which is daft when you can buy one ready made. Check your inlet manifold flap operating rod is not broken, these often break and make the ADR (typical code) engine feel much less responsive.

What is the cars exact year and engine code? You either have to raise/remove the engine, remove the front panel or remove the inlet manifold, you choose which.

HI this is the vw passat 1.8 ADR engine non turbo. Its a 1998 model. The plastic manifold flap operating rod is broken. My question is how to change it and what part number? Also could it be broken due to the flaps in the manifold getting stuck, as in is replacing the rod sufficient or does one have to remove the manifold as well to fix the problem?
