Hi all, my first post so please be gentle

We have a 2002 Golf tdi Se (110 Red "i") car and are considering a new Golf Tdi. My question is has anyone driven the new 1.6 Tdi 105 PS and if so can they make a comparison with the old 110 engine?

I don't think I need the 140 engine but I don't want to go to a lesser powered one than the 110 we have.

Also I am thinking of the 1.6 tdi 105 PS DSG version if that makes any difference?

    Any help appreciated.

    Al.

    I didn't think they were still making the non-PD engines in '02, are you sure it's not a 100, or a 130?

Maybe it is a 100 but the badge has a red "i" so I assumed it was a 110 engine. I'll need to check the book when my other half gets home.

or look in the spare wheel well, there should be a sticker in there with the engine code and power (in kW)

BTW, it's very easy to get a badge and stick it on, if you know what I mean.!

    HTH.

    So its the 105bhp model.

I was rreading a review regarding the 1.6TDI in the new Polo and its a little rocket, not read much as yet regarding the overall feeling in the Golf..

But if its producing 77KW or 105BHP its going to feel nippy around the town and happy to cruise on the motorway.

The 140's superb and you may not need it as such, but it's always nice to have a bit more 'oompf' on tap for getting past those lorries on long single track roads.

You won't notice any reduction in power terms between the 105 and the 110 you currently have, in fact it may feel faster due to the extra smoothness of power delivery and improved efficiency of the engine. It will certainly be streets ahead in terms of refinement.

However I thoroughly recommend that you test drive the 140 diesel before making a decision, as for me 105 is just too weak.

I would be interested to know the gross weight of the 1.6 TDI SE (which we have ordered), compared to the outgoing 2.0 110 SE. The latter has/had a gross weight of 1870kgs, according to the brochure. (No brochure for the 1.6 yet, even though it's being manufactured! VWUK are still sending out the April 09 brochure).
My interest is to compare the two, as the 1.6 is slightly less powerful on paper.

I found a standard model 1.6 Tdi 105 PS - SE and have ordered it, should be here end of August which is pretty exciting!
I heard the Wolksburg plant is pretty busy because the German scrappage scheme is a good one and has been an outstanding success, and of course they are keen on buying a good car built in their own country.

You say that you "found" the car, can you clarify? Is it a factory order car? If so, when did you place your order? Our late June ordered car (the same as yours) won't be with us until late September, early October.
