so I installed an aftermarked xenon kit today, and when finished with it I could not lock the car with the remote. took it for a spin and the wipers only worked at full speed. returned ome and opened the bonnet and removed the plugs to the ballasts. now the car is working perfect. locking and wiping. put on one of the ballasts and still everything works well. connected the other too; same problem again. took it off - all ok. either something wrong with the ballast or do I need to put on a resistor to clear this up?

Are you using a relayed harness drawing directly from the battery, or just pluging the ballasts straight into one side of the factory loom?

I've plugged it straight to the factory wiring to each headlight.

Could be a CAN-bus problem, as you suggest you may well have to use 10 ohm / 20W resistors to fool the 'bulb out' (35W HID kit).

Or coding the car for xenons may prevent the 'bulb out' issue.

Other EMP weirdness and voltage drop problems should only occur when turning the lights on using the standard factory halogen loom.

I would purchase a fused, relayed harness to draw direct from the battery and code the car for xenons with vagcom.

thought I should try to connect it relay so I purchased relay and harness today, I will try connecting through that tomorrow, and vag-com it. where in vag-com can I turn on the factory xenon setting?

Not to sure on an 01 Sharan, i would try somewhere in 'Central Electronics' first.

I would try asking Uwe at Rosstech?

Dont think the coding will need altering as halogen/xenon are standard options.

There is no coding necessary for halogen or xenon lighting on the 01 Sharan

Is there not something to stop a 'bulb out' when only drawing 35W?

I am no Sharan expert. lol

I beleive that is intragated in the data bus diagnostic interface, in the dash panel insert.
