Replacing rear pads with electronic handbrake

Hi I own a 55reg passat and I need to change the rear pads but wasnt sure if I have to do anything different to get the piston back. I have changed rear pads on cars before where you have a tool to turn and push the piston back at the same time. Do I do anything different with it being electronic. Thanks

Yarp- you need vag-com to wind the piston back in. (or dealer/garage to do it with their programs)

Yes, you need to wind back the handbrake motors affixed to the rear calipers. You'll need an electronic programmer/coder reader type to do this task that plugs into the diagnostic socket. Not really a DIY job unless you want to invest in the equipment. You also use the same equipment to reset the motors once you have fitted the new pads.

laserline do the tool you need. i bought one .it does the passat and the a6. cost around £130.
