    Hi,

I was changing a window regulator over from my Mums passat that is soon to be scrapped into my passat.

Tried and tested the windows etc while doing the work all operating fine put it all back together and now in both cars the central locking from the key fob won't close the drivers door other 3 doors close, the window switches on the drivers door are all dead and the electric mirror switch is dead.

Their is power to the door lights illuminate, central locking switch on drivers door closes the drivers door only.

Exact same fault on both cars which is really weird i have checked all the electrical connections, they are all good and I don't think their is any you can get in the wrong way around.

    Fuel cap button works.

Please help i only have until sunday to fix my mums car before she needs to drive home 250 miles and i wont get another chance for ages.

    Cheers Ben.

If you swapped the control units with the window regulator the ccm will not Know the coding of the exchange unit and so won't work. Try a vag-com code read to see if it reports an error. Oh for the days when you could just swap bits from car to car.

I did swap the door control module over at one point but they are know using the original ones with just the window regulator swapped.

Is their any way to reset it without VAG-Com is it going to cost a lot to get a garage to reset the code or is it a simple job.

    Cheers Ben.

You can't tell if a fault has occured without a code read. Try the vag-com section to see if anyone near you can check it. It shouldn't cost more than half hour labour at any garage that has the equipment.

I have beenhaving a similar problem on a T reg passat ewstate with the front windows failing to work. After cleaning all the fuses and various bits of titivation with little success, I disconnected the battery, counted to ten and the then reconnected it. Voila, Working front windows"!. Wouldn't help the melted wire syndrome of course, but it cured this annoying intermittent failure so far.
