Hi. I have a Golf Cl tdi 1995 which seems fine through the gears but when you drive at motorway speeds and "floor it" it seems to miss and hod back, if you gently roll on the accellaration, it doesnt seem to have a problem.

I am planning some long trips abroad soon and wondered if anyone can help with the problem

How old is your AMM/MAF (Air mass meter/Mass air flow sensor) ? If it is quite old this could be a possibility. Ideally try and swap for a know good AMM.

Also try and get a fault code scanned, i.e. using VAG-COM. This may assist in further limp mode related diagnosis, (boost leaks, N75, hoses ...).
A forum search for limp mode, will provide a pool of related information.
