    Please help!

I have a late 2003 GTI with a faulty boot lock mechanism! When operating the central locking with the key fob/internal button I do NOT hear the distinctive clicking of the central locking device in the rear boot. The boot will still open manually and yes the lock is left in the correct position for central locking operation as per the handbook.

There are no obvious leaks in the rear boot and the rear screen wash/wipe works perfectly.

I have disconnected the battery. No joy. I have read the car for fault codes with a handheld scanner. Nothing.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated before I throw hard earned cash at the problem.

You could have either a faulty solenoid,or a fault with the wiring, pull back the gaiter on top of the tailgate and check the wires.

    Kenny,

    Thanks for the quick response.

I forgot to mention that I have examined the wires under both gaitors and they look in remarkably good nick considering the car is 6 years old ( I had a Sharan with the same problem.)

Solenoid? Sorry I am a complete novice. What is this and how do I check/fix?

    Thanks

Just one thing before you go any further, try pressing, twice on the fob.The solenoid is the electro motor which opens-closes the lock, you will need to remove the tailgate trim to access it

Pressed the kob about 100 times - there is no noise from the boot but every other lock works perfectly. Makes me think you may be right about the solenoid.

Is this an easy fix and managaeable by a novice.

Also - roughly how much for the part?

    Cheers,

    Sean
