Picked up my new car today; a late 2006 A4 Avant 2.0 TDI 170 S Line... Great car but I was shocked after 10 years of Audi and VW ownership to find that there's no trip computer!!! Count down of the fuel is there but no average mpg etc. Really annoying and something I didn't consider it wouldn't have on an s-line. So...can I retrofit the stalk and whatever else needs doing?

Got this done a couple of months ago. You need a new stalk and vag-com to reprogram the computer. A8tech sent me a work through explaining how to do the job which I passed onto the garage. Main dealer did say it was a factory fit only option which is drivel.

That's great. The guy at Audi said the cost would make it non-viable and there would be loads of extra equipment needed. So just need the stalk and VAGcom (which I don't have but know someone who does). Is there any chnace you could send me the instructions please? Thanks

Unfortunately I have deleted the e-mail with the instructions. Ask A8tech if he can PM them to you. The guy really knows his stuff.

Ordered the new trip computer stalk - Part number: 4E0 953 503 C4 PK - £75 (approx). I will have to talk nicely to the garage down the road who have VAGcom...

You also need to earth pin 1 of the dash to close the washer level circuit otherwise the washer level empty symbol will be shown on the dash all the time.

Thanks A8tech - that's really great of you to give me that information. Will the water level light still work as normal after pin 1 has been earthed?

No. You need to connect the water level sensor to ground and pin 1 on the blue instrument connector 32.

If there's already a pin and wire there, the sensor needs to be connected to connetor 17, pin 9.
