Passat Daylight running lights

Does anyone know what is involved in activating daylight running lights on a 2008 Highline?. The manual says it's a dealer job so I've just asked the question at my dealers .The mechanic said he didn't think it was possible but I find this hard to believe !
I hate the things personally but have just come back from Italy where it is now a legal requirement. It's a pain remembering to switch the lights on and an even bigger pain when you don't hear the 'Bing Bong' and forget to switch them off!!!

You need diagnostic equipment to change the long coding of the central electronics control unit,but yes it can be done.

Thanks for that. I was hoping there might be something straight foreward like the fuse which was removeable on Volvos.

Enabled mine, but i have my own vag com so its easy

If you dont mind me hi-jacking this thread, I'm also very keen to get them done and I'm just outside Glasgow, but will be travelling a lot through the UK over the next couple of weeks. Where are you?
