I have a 2003 transporter t4 2.5tdi. When you turn the ignition on the glow plug light comes on then goes off after about 1-2 seconds.
If you try to start it then it won't start.
I have tested the glow plugs and the relay they are ok.

I have also had the test light to the glow plug wires and when the ignition is on there is power to the glow plugs for a good 10 seconds.

If you put ignition on and wait till you here the relay click off after about 10 seconds the van will start as normal.

Can anyone tell me how to make the glow plug light stay on for the correct time or what is causing this as the lady who owns it keeps trying to start it as soon as the light goes out. Grrrrrrrr!

    Thanks Paul

The fact that the control light goes out after a few seconds is normal. In what way did you check the glow plugs.

If you are 100% sure the plugs are ok,then i think the pump timing is out, these engines start almost as soon as they are turned over.

Thanks, I cant' see how the pump timing can be out non of that has been touched and as i said it starts perfectly if you wait until the glowplug relay clicks off after about 10 seconds.

The problem is the awkward customer that wants the van to start the second the glow plug light goes out if it was mine i wouldn't even bother.

    Regards Paul

If you have diagnostic equipment it is easy to find out if the timing is out.

It is not the fact of a fault being logged,it is to certify the timing is right,
