Hi this is my first post and I am a bit of a VW novice so forgive me for what may be a very silly question, but nonetheless here it is.....

I am (finally) about to become the proud owner of my first Golf. I am looking for a 2006-07 TDI, but I must confess I have become a little confused on the trim details. I think I know the following:-

S = basic trim, not so hot
    SE = a grade up from S
Match = limited edition better than both of the above

Now this is where I get confused

GT = sport seats & better trim
Sport = um, ok lost now
GT Sport = have I made this one up??

I have seen several cars, all advertised as TDI GT, some advertised as TDI sport, but only one out of all of these cars has a GT badge on the grill. Is this an add on that you can choose to put on yourself?

Could someone please help me out here?

    Thanks very much

PS - to those who are suspicious at my question - yes I am a girl and yes the GT badge is therefore of disproportionate importance to me, as is colour

    At least you're honest lol!

Ok, GT you're pretty much on the money. If you're looking at the diesel version it will have the 2.0 140bhp engine (I have this and I think it's a great balance of power and economy.

    Not sure about Sport myself.

GT Sport is basically the same as the GT but has the same engine putting out 170bhp. Most people on the forum seem to mention this being considerably less fuel efficient.

The GT Sport didn't come along until slightly later, maybe on the 56 plate? I'm sure someone can correct me on this. By that time the front had been redesigned slightly to have the horizontal slats, which the one model with the GT badge will have had. TBH I'm not sure if you only get that with the GT Sport.

Hope that's of some use to you. I'm sure one of the chaps that know's what they're talking about will be along shortly to put me right!

So not many to chose from really!!

Couple of things to add, the S range tend to come on wheel trims rather than alloys.

SE -- have black external door running strips and on front bumper until around 2007 -

GT SPORT has the new front end (black grill)

Ooooooooooooooh I have gone cross eyed now!! So many options!

seriously though Rick thanks for that, that was really helpful. I think I get it now.

Only thing is do you know if the GT sport is 2007 onwards as I can't seem to find an 06 one.

Elivis - again thanks for the response. I have seen the GT badge on two 06's cars and neither had the slatty grill, would you guess these have been added on then?

    Thanks again both.

This is were it greats confusing.

The new front end on the GT series is from 2007 -

From launch they did a GT TDI, which was also known as the GT SPORT too.

What sort of budget are you looking at?

    But then...

would love a more 'expert' opinion then mine on this. The mileage needs clarification though as it currently says 1 mile...

What you have there are 2 cars in a different league..

    let me expalin..

    The 1.9tdi (black) is 105bhp, where as the Silver is a 2.0TDI 170bhp, they also do a 140bhp 2.0tdi.

Depending on your age and no claim discounts etc, the 170bhp will cost more to insure.

Couple of things for you to look to get a nice spec inside the car dual climate control. -- Instand of the dials for the heating, you get a lcd display for each side of the car where you can set the temp.

What you need to do to start with is think about which engine you would like, 1.9tdi 105 bhp, 2.0TDI 140 bhp or the 2.0tdi 170bhp..

I will post some examples below which i think look ok taking into account your choices..
