Well i have made a good start the balance shaft is now repaired and back on the car all timed up (with pm advice from Dmitch16) all i have left to do on that part is to refit the sump which im going to leave off for now. When i had put the balance shaft back on i thought i would remove the intake pipe off the turbo and check for play and low and behold yes the turbo is also gone (the spindle nut came off in my hand). So now i have to remove the turbo  but also still need to remove the dpf as that is also blocked but how the heck do you get the dpf off the car. The only way i can see is to drop the cradle is this correct ? Also will i have to disconnect the steering rack if so how is this done as i cannot see where it splits
    Can anyone advise please

Big job. Steering rack stays bolted to the subframe. Subframe needs to come off if you can't do the turbo out from the battery side and DPF out from the OSF wheel arch methods both of which take a bit of practice. Too much to do to describe on a post.

Got a set of instructions somewhere on Word taken from ELSAWIN the VW workshop repair software. I'll dig them out.

Usually with a VCDS scan whilst it is on the car - the ECU records the soot saturation and ash loads. Over 45 grammes of ash = time to change it or have it cleaned.
