Hello guys and girls, just registerd on here today beause I really need some help from yourselves if possible.

The ESP and ABS warning lights on my Mk 4 Golf 130 gt tdi came on two days ago and won't go off. I have spoken to a couple of people who have suggested various problems with differing levels of solutions and prices. The one constant seems to be that it's best to get it on the diagnositics and have a look to see what the problem is.

So far there appears to be no braking issues/grinding/shuddering, etc. What are the chances that this is a fairly straight forward sensor issue with a relatively cheap solution, or am i looking at the abs brain needing replaced (as told by someone) and having to max my credit card???

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A code read is the first thing to do.
Get it done then post codes on here for help.
Could just be a dirty or failed sensor.

    Cheers kite.

I assume I'll get the codes from a diagnositc test. Hopefully my mate will be able to get me a discounted check at a VW garage and then I can post the codes on here.

I have exactly the same problem on a 1.9TdiSE PD100 - it's going in under warranty some time soon and if I find out anything I'll post the information.

Cheers batteryman. Unfortunately my Golf is second hand and an 02 plate, so I'll be paying for it out of my own pocket.

Mine's a 52 plate but I was lucky to find a low mileage VW approved car that I wanted so it's got the warranty. We'll see how it goes, hope yours is a simple inexpensive fault easily fixed.

Initial fault showing was both ABS and ESP warning lights showing on dash display. Repaired under warranty and turned out to be a faulty abs wheel sensor. I don't know the cost of the repair, mostly labour I guess at a main dealer. A fault code read should show what's wrong and if it's a sensor they're fairly easy to change.
