  1. Replacement Wheels / Tyres for the Winter?

I'm completely new to the world of VW, so I haven't a scoobie about VW wheel sizes, PCD's etc, so may I ask -

I'd like to put narrower tyres on the car during the winter (snow tyres) on plain steel rims & trims (or perhaps alloys), but I don't know if earlier Golf wheels will fit the new Mk VI, could anybody point me in the right direction please?

    Thanks in advance, WeegieBob

Here is a really useful site for you mate that will give you hundreds of tyre types and sizes that are compatable with your Golf Just enter your VRN and select summer or winter tyres.

The advantage of winter tyres is the high silica content that give flexibility and contact/grip at temperatures below 8 degrees Centigrade, something that Summer tyres won't do....

Any wheel that fits a Mk5 will fit a Mk6. Both have 5x112 PCD bolt fitting, and both have the same offset requirement, e.g. ET50 on a 6.5J 16" rim.

Suitable wheel sizes would include 195/65 15 and 205/55 16.

Have a look on ebay, searching for "Golf" in 195 width 65 profile 15 inch rim, in the wheels and tyres section. There are some cheap steel rims and alloys around. If you pick a set with worn out summer tyres on, you may get a set of 4 for as little as £100 or so.

    Thanks guys.

Really useful web site Griff, got lots of options from it.

And the tech information nebw helps narrow (no pun intended!) it down for me.
