    I have this diagnostic tool.http://www.kjell.com/filarkiv/SUPPOR...3/obd2-102.pdf

Can not have it connected to my Golf. Is there anybody that could say what protocol my car uses?

    best regards

Since your link isn't working I assume you do have an AGV4000 (or similar) interface adapter. The manufacturer claims that they work with VAG-COM (k/l transit mode) but reality has shown that they often cause problems.

To finally answer your question, your vehicle uses KWP1281 for diagnostics which isn't naturally supported by that interface hardware - hence the transit mode.

Based on reports of our customers, I'd rather suggest to buy a cheap chinese knock-off than the AGV hardware as the knock-offs are easier to get to work while still being a hassle compared to genuine Ross-Tech interface hardware.

The real question is always what exactly you wanna do with it, the fact that you want it for your Golf is not so important. Actually the older the model the more hassle it is to find real quality 3rd party hardware, but if you want real advice - get the real thing. It may cost more to begin with but in the long run you won't be disappointed.
