Hi got to replace t wishbone bushes vw polo tdi 1.4 2003.
Its very squeaky and i'm getting uneven tyre wear.

I don't have the Haynes manual for this car but do have a couple of vw ones and don't really want to buy a manual.

Can anyone give me any pointer? I usually replace the whole wiishbone but have just bought the bushes this time.

    thanks

    Rob

Bumpty bump! Anyone any tips? The guy in the VW garage said something about dropping the cradle (I guess that means sub frame)?

I use a special tool to pull out and push in the new bush, you will have to remove and probably replace the side consuls BUT that means the camber and tracking will have to be checked.

    Cheers Crasher.
So I remove the wishbone and press them out ? Not sure on the side consul is that another term for it. I'm sizing the job up tonight.

Incidently I got my Golf Mk3 Tracking checked by laser in a grage and he said it was perfect! (using two lengths of wood and string ) now driving like new. Very happy.

The side consuls slide inside the central subframe and hold the bush, I have never tried to change the bushes without the proper tool but removing the consuls (they are ally) should only be done if the special alignment pins are available. Remember every single bolt and nut you remove is torque to yield and so must be replaced.

Crasher those pictures are fantastic and a real help. Thank you.
I think I am going to have to use a large vice to get the bush in. I have checked and can get it in the space with the wishbone removed I just need to get it square on.
I am assuming using any sort of lubricant is a NO NO here?

I use a slither of lube in the consul but one thing, pay attention to the orientation of the alignment peg, it is different one side to the other. All the bushes exterior is plastic and will break if treated badly.

Slither of grease - rodger that

Basically I need to get it square on before nipping up the vice or i will break it. I think that's the message!
