Audi Hill Hold Assist

I have this option on my car

I am wondering how the hill hold function works

When the hill hold is activated with the engine running, the green light is displayed in the dash.
When you switch the ignition of,f the red light illuminates and you can hear the handbrake being applied

My question is - does the hill hold work. On a diff lock, because it doesn't appear to work the handbrake

Any ideas?

It's also quicker in it's action. I've assummed the the green P gets an extra hydraulic push on the front brakes and that the red P is a mechanically application of pressure on the rear pads.

basically the Green light means the brakes are "locked" i.e the ones you used to stop the car, same as keeping your foot on the brake, red light means the hand brake has been activated.
