    Hi Folks,

Has anyone changed their brake discs themselves and could perhaps tell me how easy or hard it is to do on a year 2000 Passat with ABS?

I've changed the discs and pads on plenty of older cars (Fiat Unos, Rovers, MX5s, etc) but not done the discs on anything VAG. I've changed the pads on the Passat before (front and rear) so I know about twisting the caliper piston as you compress the rears, but I don't know if there's anything tricky about changing the discs. A friend changed his discs on an old Audi A4 and he told me it a pig of a task since he had to remove some sort of ABS sensor from the discs to put on the new ones - anyone know if there's anything similar to be done on the Passat?

Anyone got some good step-by-step instructions?

I think he meant the wear sensors and not the ABS sensors. The fronts are easy, a child could do them. You have to buy pads with sensors and make sure you connect the sensors properly. To release the old ones, you have to kind of twist 90 degrees and pull them off. Just remember to copper slip the areas where the pads are seated and where the hub touches the disk. If you've done the pads before then you should be fine in changing the disks too. Just a case of removing the calipers (make sure you rest them properly or the brake hose will bugger up). Id spray the caliper retaining bolts with some WD40 before you attempt to remove them, just so you make life easier for yourself.
