once, both me feet slipped of the pedals whilst going over some bumpy ground.

I did not find it amusing.

    Great riding....
One thing about the bike, it seems to have a fixed wheel, he pedals back and the bike goes back in some of the clips, but when he is freewheeling his pedals don't move..
Is it some sort of special gizmo in the rear hub.

no, just a standard rear hub. when going backwards, he does pedal backwards, but not to actually make the bike go backwards. the bike goes backwards due to using bodyweight to make it move. very clever stuff.

i think free runners are benders who cant drive and have got bored of running normally, they'll all be cripples by the time they are in their 40's. anyway, that bike skill is awesome, some brakes he has there, one thing going for him, has made the move from bmx to mountain bike, although you wouldnt climb many mountains with it, single speed, quite low geared but good enough for what he needs, the whole pedalling back thing, imagine your normal bike, push it backwards, the pedals turn backwards dont they, forwards it free wheels unless pedalled, he is just winding pedals back as the gear moves in reverse, people have been doing it on bmx's for about 25 years. ive never mastered it but it is hard so......one thing i can do is sit on the bars and ride round facing backwards with fingers definately off front brake kids love it, i tell them not to try it, i just did it one day when i was about ten, i have a proper bike though , not a downhill or trick bike, i climb hills
