A4 2.5TDi SE Avant 2003

Hi All,

Just introducing myself as a new owner

of a metallic silver 2003 A4 Avant. (Dont pick it up until Wednesday - worst luck!!)

Just wanting to know what i can expect MPG in the real world and what are these cars like to live with? (multitronic)

Have owned a couple of 3 Series Beemers but have just traded a Rover 75 in for this one (Dont laugh too loud not a bad motor)

I have a AKN engine (150PS engine) with Quattro drive and regularly return on average 40-43mpg on A-class roads. Avoid stop-starting in the city or you'll see that figure plummet to around 25-30 mpg.

Watch the gearbox as it can give lots of troubles ! Do a search on multitronics !

Well i have been really enjoying this thing for a few weeks now and all in all it has been excellent.

I have a question that i am fearful of the answer...

The CVT gearbox seems to hunt at around 1400 -1800RPM. the car has done 64k and the gearbox oil was changed bang on 40k.

I got a 6 month warranty with the car but i have just noticed that is limited to £1000

Should i get the oil changed again?

Hi there...I also have a 2.5tdi 163 6speed....round the town 25ish....motorway..34-40.....steady 60..45 ish.
take it up to the big numbers 95-110...18-20ish....
but the torque in these things will pull you head off.

Mines tiptronic with a 233bhp remap, but the figures above are comparable to what I get. My trip computer shows an average over the past 2 years of 32mpg.

Took the car back to the dealer, they have sent it to local Audi dealer (in Stockton - would be nice to hear anyones experience of them?), they had it all day yesterday told me they couldnt find anything wrong but wanted to keep it overnight (!!)

Just a quick update...
Audi dealer Has diagnosed a faulty valve in the gearbox, the whole unit has to come out to get to the part. None of these parts in the Uk, no car for at least 5 days!
Audi teesside say they have not come across this problem before so therefore have not done one before (should have told them to check out this forum!)
Hope that this fixes the problem as I sure am missing that car

Just looking at maybe a A4 avant, baby on the way so the gti will have to go, thinking of the 2.5tdi, what are the experiences, what sort of performance can I expect?

Is it alot differnt to the 2.0tdi?

Can only speak for the 2.5, the performance is awesome. There is always plenty of power available. I also have 2 kids so safety is very important mine has 6 airbags and the doors shut with a reassuring clunk. The only slight disappointment is the space they look a lot bigger than they actually are I can't even get the pushchair in straight in the boot it has to go in on an angle and it just fits probably should sell the kids!!
