hi, i am having a nightmare with my 1.9d t4 the problem is this when bought it would only start on a hill. i have replaced the starter motor as the solenoid was knacked. then it would turn but not fire. changed the glow plugs and fitted a pushbutton to bypass the non working vw setup. it still wouldnt start unless bumped and was running like a bag of nails. as the van was run on veg oil changed the fuel filter and lines as they looked dirty, then noticed air in the feed line so bled the system and found the pump was knackered, changed that and still would only bump start and sounding roughter still removed the top breather last night when towed started and the pressure coming from the crankcase was almost enouth to throw oil up the windscreen. i have changed the timing belt and timed and primed the fuel system so i know my baseline is right before t"timing belt" responses come back. please help as i new to t4 driving and sorely tempted to go back to t2 cold driving sitting by the side of the road fixing problems as they come up.

    cheers

Have you tested the cylinders for compression? it sounds like you have tried everything else and with that kind of pressure behind the breather it sounds like it is getting past the rings.
