    Hi..First time poster here...welcome all
    Now to the problem...

    I have a 52 plate 2.0 A4

When i drive the car any distance i get a wobbling of the car..like a rocking...BUT..with no wheel wobble?

The further i drive the car the worse it gets...and its more pronounced when driving at about 20-30mph..at faster speeds it is like a constant shaking...

I have a very reliable garage (independant audi/vw) who i have used for years..they have suggested that it could be the shocks..but are hesitant to replace them at great expence..only to find that its not the problem

    The tyre pressures are fine...

It has been suggested that i post on here to see if anybody else has had/heard of a similar problem?

The seasick reference is how i start to feel after driving for a while..lol

    I hope someone can help

    regards

    Peter

    Welcome aboard!

Very hard to diagnose over t'internet and even more so when a mechanic is stumped.

You say the tyre pressures are fine but how are the tyres/wheels. Have you had them balanced recently?

Very true, can you describe the wobble/motion.

I know these cars are big and tend to float/wallow around but I've not heard of wobbling without wheel wobble before.

How do i put this into words?..Hmmm

The words that come to mind are juddering,spongeyness...

The faster i drive ...the faster the juddering...and when i slow down, it slows but becomes more pronounced..anybody in the car can feel it..

I suppose in a way it feels like there is a flat tyre..when there isnt actually one..

Thanks for your comments so far guys

    Peter

    Peter,

    Nice words!

Do you get a thud thud thud noise or a clack clack clack noise as well as a judder?

Have you looked at CV joints, control arms and sway bar links?

I had a simlair issue.. the wheels on the rear where not balanced after some new treads where fitted... I few garages claim you dont need to do the rears.. and yes on some cars it does not matter, but on the A4 it did..

I would get the rears balaanced first of all and take it from there..

I had a similar experience but on my previous car, a ford, and it turned out to be a warped tyre on the rear. I confirmed this by swapping it with my spare and it stopped.

If you have a good spare try changing it with one wheel at a time and see if that solves the problem.

    Thankyou gents..

I will try moving the tyres around/getting them balanced

I have just had a look at the tyres and noticed that 3 of them are 205/55 R 16's and that the other is a 205/55 ZR 16 ...would that make a difference?

In response to Sam..no sound at all...just the shaking..

I apologise for my newbie type questions...

    Regards

    Peter
