Engine noise on tdi 150

Hi all new to this forum stuff but i looking for help. My 02 Anniversary tdi Started to make like a booming sound from the engine from start up not only cold but when its was warm but would go away after u rev ed the engine but now it is doing it all the time. It s almost like its blowing back up the inlet pipe from the filter i know these engines are prone to wear the cam shaft but this isn t a tapping sound more like the car is out of its timeing, but it starts fine . Please help me if ya can..

Hi, the noise you are hearing sounds like a damaged hydaulic follower (tappet) keeping an inlet valve slightly open making a thudding sound in the airbox, it's becoming all too common on pd engines now! if that is the case the only way to cure it is a new set of followers, camshaft and an oil and filter change.

Your prob right Thats all i need right now. I removed the intercooler pipe at the top of the manifold and the noise is even louder with a real deep thud. Does anybody know of a good place to pickup a camshaft, etc rather than buying the same vw rubbish again? I ll ave a wee peak at the cam shaft during the week i ll keep u posted thanx.

try GSF car parts, loads cheaper than vw and i've not had any problems with them in the last couple of years.
