Hi all, just joined the forum as iam looking to buy abn 02 plate Passat estate.
Noticed lots of these motors have high mlleage, what would you consider to high and what is normal for these cars to handle in there life span.
The car iam looking at has a full service history and well over a 100,000 miles.
Nice car all round but just scared by the milleage, should i be?

    Thanks in advance,
    Barry.

    What exact milege?
As you say, if full service history, i would not worry much. I've seen passat's with 270000 miles on clock and still runs like dream.
Before you buy just check plenuim drains under battery
Check if any oil in water tank
    Check for wet carpets
and check if all electrics works (interior lights, alarm, etc)

Check for cambelt service/when the next is due (60'000.)
Check to see if clutch/flywheel has been replaced (mine is now on 166'000 on the original-and it's a taxi )

If serviced regularly the engines are good for double that but expect some
steering/suspension arm/bush issues - not too expensive to fix.
    MAF failure at some point.
Also do a search re water in the passenger footwell - check the one you're looking at.
All the above can be fixed yourself with a few tools and the help of this forum lol.

I have an S reg TDi that I bought a year ago. It had 80K on it when I bought it and now has 125K. As long as you look after them, they will look after you. Mine sounds like new but does get a regular service.

I've just gone through 222k with my 2000 Passat. As mentioned above, as long as you keep looking after it, it should look after you.
Nothing to see here, move along..
