Hi, how's it going? I am currently driving an Audi A3 1.6 P Reg. The vehicle runs okay for about 10mins and thereafter puts out white smoke. I have carried out a compression test and repalced the Cylinder Head Gasket. Once the gasket was changed the compression tests were acceptable. The car still runs, however, the smoke is horrific and there is a back pressure at the oil filler and at the dip stick.

    Can anyone advised?

I have been offered a replacement engine from an Audi A4 1.6, can anyone advise it this engine will fit as a direct replacement or if there are other complications?

Its good to be part of a brilliant forum and thanks in advance.

    Jamie.

Hi mate, had this issue once on one of my cars, turned out to be one ring out of a set of piston rings had broken, was fine until it warmed up then used to smoke a lot. When you say acceptable levels in your compression check do you mean they were all in the low range? How many miles has your car done? If it were an old vehicle with high mileage I would say the rings were worn and letting pressure blow by the rings therefore pressurising your sump which would account for the blowing out from the dipstick and the oil filler cap opening. Plus it would be sucking oil from the cylinder walls and burning it in the compression chamber creating white smoke. As the worn rings would allow the oil past. Let us know what mileage you have done. Good luck with it. Sorry I have no idea if the replacement engine is a direct easy swap. I am sure someone with the right information will answer your question.

    How's it going?

    Thanks for the information.

The car has completed 97000 miles. I also thought along the same lines as yourself that the piston rings maybe worn.

    Regards.
