    Today I talked with the mechanic that used to service the car.
    He told me that (obviously) he has to see it up close, which is kind of difficult as the car has no insurance and no plates atm, awaiting ownership transfer.
    However, his cautious opinion is that it's probably engines base(s), but maybe also a couple of other things...

    That is as vague as it gets! I service and maintain my own car and more than a dozen others for family, friends and workmates. I will know the general condition of all of them and what might be wearing or needing replacement and roughly when.

    I'll bear that in mind when I need a job done on mine - probably cheaper to fly you down here than take it to our local glass palace

    Half my tools belong to my 75 year old father - I'd probably have to prise what I need from his lifeless body, he's that attached to them! Including the rare VW special tool for removing / installing the camshaft frame!
