a bit of research and it seems these are far from replacing all pneumatic tyres, problems with heat noise and vibration above 50mph anyone?

seems america have a growing concern with pressurised air in a spare wheel being so close to the fuel tank. i can kind of see their point, if the fuel tank were to rupture in a crash then the spare wheel surely wouldn't last long in a fire and all that compressed oxygen would make one hell of a difference to the ferocity of the fire, much like adding a supercharger does to the power your engine delivers. So i can see them replacing spare wheels maybe.

the american military are very interested aparently, noise and vibration not so much a concern of theirs, and michelin are putting the 'tweel' to use on slower vehicles such as mobility scooters.

interestingly its only the outer skin that is replaced when worn, the spokes last much much longer, and having no sidewall is part of the design, not just for demonstration.

still along way off i reckon.
