You all know the scenario, getting ready for a long trip with the wife and kids (earplugs purchased), low on fuel so a trip to Tesco's before setting off. Get in queue for fuel and eventually manage to get to a pump and then..............................

THE DAMN FUEL FILLER FLAP WON'T RELEASE

after 10 mins at the pump fruitlessly searching everything i could find on the car to try and get it to release and people beeping their horns at me i moved car over to free up pump.

spent another 30 mins playing with fuses and wiggling wires until "she who must be obeyed" called and told me to get a shift on. Left with no other options had to break open the filler flap.

Now home again after a few days away and still cant find a reason for it not working.

have spoken to VW and ordered a new locking mechanism but they were no help in trying to diagnose problem without seeing car and charging me a small fortune for the pleasure.

Anyone out there with any ideas or possibly had same problem. would appreciate any help given

Not going to help you at the moment I'm afraid, but if this happens again, you can release the flap manually by pulling the carpet away on the RHS of the boot, and there's a release cord behind it.
Nothing to see here, move along..
