    That's what I need!

Is there a specialist VAG breakers out there.

That would be one that knows that you cannot put any old Mark V golf door lock on any Golf Mark V, or that an A3 with a widget needs a doogle, but an A3 without a widget needs a ...... you get the idea.

My hunt for such turns up alot of general breakers but not a specialist. The one I used to use retired early last year because a property developer bought his site!!!!!

    Thanks

    Martin

The only one's I can think off are:-

Smashing VW (If still going) in Leeds, Volksworks also in Leeds, and Samburn in Coventry.. I belive that these are all specialist VAG people..

StevensVW in Essex are the biggest, most specialist ones i know. They claim to be the biggest in the UK.
I dont have a contact as i dont use them but they cant be hard to find.
    They're also expensive.

But the only way ive been able to get such information is by forums of Polo owners trying and getting it wrong. Cant beat learning from other people's mistakes.

It can take a while though, especially as higher knowledge on my car was scarce,so i had to do a fair bit of research and development myself.
Being able to put that wisdom somewhere for others to benefit from has been a welcome by-product of my efforts,so the next person who had similar ideals to mine was able to benefit from me. Or copy, you decide.

So my answer is not to ask the person out to make money by selling you the object of his/her choosing, but to use the forums here to find out what you need in the first place before you search for it.

    Mikey MK.

    I here what you say

As a trader I built up a relationship with the previous breakers where an exchange of info went both ways, he got regular business from me and had he sold something out of place, he would have lost my regualar trade.

It was in both our long term interest to be fair with each other.

As a individual running one car the opportunities to establish such a relationship are limited and therefore your statements would stand true.

    Crasher... Thanks for the info.

They do tend to know the basics, but most now just want to know the age of car whenever you ask for a part.

I think its getting more difficult because specification fitment/changes are so much more diverse these days.

Also,i should point out that my own demands have been unfair. I didn't need to know about standard parts,i needed to know about a hybrid vehicle.
The engine in my '85 Polo is a 1.6 AEE from a Skoda Felicia, the gearbox from a Seat Cordoba (apart from 5th gear, which i pulled from a Polo 1.4 box),and the carbs from a Honda CBR900F.
No breakers could've been expected to know what parts i needed or if they'd fit, what clutch/flywheel would be best for a long-stroke 720kg car,if the driveshafts would fit the Cordoba's different drive flanges or if the Golf carb electronic ignition would work with the injection camshaft.
It was down to trial and error,to find out if the bigger Golf MK3 rear drums would fit the Polo axle.

I needed this level of knowledge, but had to find out for myself that the crankcase was too wide for the starter motor, and that the injection starter motor wouldn't engage with the 1.0 Polo flywheel i wanted to use..

For this level of knowledge, forums do seem to be the only real answer.
    Which is fair enough.
So what relevance to the topic? The thin line in between. Lets say i want to de-lock the front handles on my Golf VR6. Will barrel-less rear door handles fit..?

Been onto these guys too before, not far from where I live at the moment, seem to know theyre stuff alright..can find them here

Alternatively, try Motors In Motion, based in Worksop, have had few bits and pieces off them before, but like Stevens VW, not too cheap but you will get what you're looking for.
