    Hello All,

My Allroad has developed a charging fault it was a bit too wet yesterday to try and do much fault finding.

Is it a common problems for the regulator (3diodes on a plate on the chassis leg) to pack up?

or is it likely just ot be alterantor brush components/electronics module gone bad?

It looks like its a front of car off job which I am not really in the mood to do!

I asked the dealer for a quote but that will probably be high.

I need the car sorted for the weekend. So don't have many options and the dealers will be quicker than me.

Anyone else had charging faults on the v6 2.5tdi?

The diodes are part of the alternator. A year, engine and mileage would help but it be just the brushes. The three objests on the plate are balast resistors for the fresh are blower. Regards Peter

Sorry It is an early one 2000 Xreg and its done 160K, however the regulator board was hanging down and is possibly was damaged when I was driving in the snow as I don't have hte sump gaurd in place.

It appeared to be bent down, I will remove it and test it tonight.

That board is not a regulator they are resistors for contolling the flresh air fan At 160 K the chances are the bruses are shot. Minimum brush length 5 mm but I have seen them still working at 3 mm. Regards Peter
