    You mean "again again".

It's a good job it did seep oil and water out. I know someone who's golf once had a head gasket fitted upside down by a garage, and the first he knew about it was when the car overheated.

Don't worry about the embarassment, I think we've all done similar things in the past.

    THERE IS LIFE!!!

She eventually started today, had to buy a diesel priming pump because it wouldn't pump fuel to the injectors. A mouth full of diesel and a tenner later it started!

Sorted out the static pump timing on VAG-COM too... what a bloody fiddly thing that is! I must have adjusted it 20 times! In the end it is reading "timing dead on!" and flickering "timing within spec but advanced" which was the aim.

Spent the rest of the day cleaning the engine bay and topping with coolant, replacing the minging, emulsified oil with fresh stuff and flushing the coolant and replacing with new G12.

Its definitely quieter now too... I'm well chuffed.

thanks Kenney. His face when it started was great. Everytime I've gone out to work on it he has been there too (probably just to keep an eye on me ). I hope he appreciates it too.

What a birthday present... the car starting!

so glad its sorted, seen so many bargain projects that turn out to be 90% finished and sold on ebay for a loss, i can see its not been easy but you've done it, mines been in the garage for a week now having head gasket done, just waiting for the wallet busting bill, i can see a 'well, you see, we had to replace this and that and that wasnt cheap' and a week of working on it on and off, only thing i asked for was head gasket and new water pump seeing as they have it apart.
Subaru broken, sold, Silver Seat Leon Cupra 180 '02' no cupra badge?

Thanks Stuey. I rarely sell cars broken... instead I normally buy them broken, and I've done it again.

Really hope they don't fob you off, there are a hell of a lot of bad garages out there. Especially the one that had my Skoda in under the previous owner, a garage in Derby spent over £3k replacing pistons, injectors, con rods, fuel pump and everything else you can possibly think of, when the problem was actually just the turbo and exhaust.

Stuey, with your problem I'm assuming you have had a horrible mix of oil and water? When you get it back, I would check the coolant for more oil. Seen as the engine is pretty similar to the one in the Octy (1.9 TDI VE engine) you can remove the hose leading to the coolant reservoir and let it trickle out. If it is still milky you should let it continue to run and then refill with new G12 (or G12++) coolant.

Also, when you remove the filler cap it will probably be quite steamy for a bit (mine is) while the water in the oil evaporates. Even with an oil change it won't be gone completely. That's why I'm next changing the oil in 2k miles time. That way any excess water will be completely gone.

You probably know all the above but... every little helps.
